Disc Brakes – Metal pad that rubs against the brake disc as the driver presses the brake pedal to slow down.
Drum Brakes – Pads sit inside hollow wheel hubs that press outward, creating friction against the wheel to slow the vehicle.
Handbrake – The “parking brake” is a lever, pedal, or button that slowly applies secondary pressure to the disc and drum brakes. The handbrake system may be used as an emergency brake, since it does not rely on brake fluid.
Brake Rotors – An iron disc that is a part of your vehicle’s disc brake system. It works along with the brake pads to stop your car. Brake rotors come in smooth, slotted, cross-drilled, drilled and slotted styles.
Brake Calipers: A clamp that houses the brake fluid, brake pistons, and brake pads.
Brake Fluid: Liquid that activates the brake pistons, which causes your brake pads to press, slowing your vehicle down.
Brake Booster: Increases the force exerted on the brakes without the need for additional pressure on the pedal.
